Unit 5 Projects
Small Bust
Plan:
My plan for this piece is to create a simple person, with no reference
Description:
To start this piece, I created a circle for the head and hollowed it out, then added the face structure. I then built up its neck and body. I scored and slipped the head onto the body and smoothed it out. I started by indenting the face and adding the nose. Unfortunately I struggled a lot with this piece and decided to not finish it. I ended up just donating it to the slop bucket.

Wall Hanging Mask
Plan:
My plan for this piece was to create a simple mask with a butterfly design
Description:
To start this piece, I formed the basic head shape, with a flat/indented back. I then carved the facial features like the eyes, nose, and eyebrows. I then shaped a butterfly to put in place of the mouth. I then carved out designs all over the face. I also carved a hole in the top so I could hang it up. I used overglaze to create an earthy green design, with a purple butterfly. The only thing I would do differently is use a lighter green so it's not as harsh.

Mug 4 Wellness center
Plan:
My plan for this piece was to just create a simple mug with a unique handle
Description:
To start this mug, I used slabs to build up the basic shape. I scored and slipped, then carved out the bottom. Once the mug was formed to my liking, I added the handle. I decided to make the handle look like a butterfly wing. After firing this piece for the first time, I added a pink overglaze. I think this piece turned out just as I imagined and wouldn't do anything different.

Something Useful
Plan:
For this piece I decided to create a dish that I can use to grind garlic/herbs
Description:
I originally wanted to make this piece in the shape of a turtle, but after lots of trial and error, I decided to keep it as a simple dish. I made a simple round dish, then used a tool to create indents in the center. I used a overglaze once it was bisque wear. The only thing I would do differently on this piece would be to spend more time smoothing out the edges.

Choice Project
Pueblo Style Coil Vessel
Plan:
My plan for this piece was to create a simple pot using coal building
Description:
When building this piece, I decided I would create it in two separate pieces. I started by using coals and building up the top part of the pot. I scored and slipped, then smoothed it out. I then did the same thing, just wider for the bottom. I then smoothed it all together to the shape of my choice. I decided to let this piece dry out a bit so I could underglaze it. I glazed it in the pueblo style, hoping to accurately represent it. I then added a clear glaze over top of the piece when it was bisque wear. I am overall proud of this piece and would not do anything differently.

Plan:
For this piece I really wanted to recreate "maggot" from the movie The Corpse Bride
Description:
To begin this piece, I started by creating his head. I molded the basic shapes of his face then hollowed it out. I then began to form the body and attached the head. I scored and slipped the head on, then smoothed out the seam. I then molded all the details and hollowed out the body. I decided to underglaze this piece so I could get the most accurate colors. I decided to use this piece for the music and art festival because I really liked how it turned out.
