Unit 6 Projects

Whimsical House

Plan:

My plan for this piece was to create a simple house with a brown and white design

Description:

To start this piece, I decided to use the slab building technique to build up the basic shape. I created four slabs and put them together by scoring and slipping. After the walls were up, I created two more slabs for the roof. I ended up firing this piece then glazed it as bisque wear. I used white for the walls and brown for the roof, door, and windows. I am not very proud of this piece and wish I had more time to make it look better.

Organic Shape

Plan:

My plan for this piece was to use the pinch pot method to create a starfish bowl.

Description:

To begin this piece, I rolled out a basic circle, then started to hollow out the insides and carve out the basic shape. I used a wood tool to indent the sides and make it resemble a starfish. Once it was smoothed and shaped to my liking, I put it in the kiln. Once it was bisque wear, I glazed it with red and orange, then added white details. I am overall pretty satisfied with this piece.

Unfortunately, I was only able to complete two pieces in this unit. I decided to prioritize my donation piece and my final, so I ended up running out of time for the rest of this unit.

Final Project

Plan:

My plan for this piece was to recreate the iconic game Candy Land in the form of a platter

Description:

To begin this piece, I used a piece of paper to draw out my outline and plan. I then began rolling out clay and forming it into a rectangle. I then built up its walls and smoothed it out. My original plan was to use underglaze so I could get the most accurate colors, but we were out of all the colors I needed. I then decided I would just fire it then glaze it with low fire glaze. Before I put it into the kiln, I traced out the path through the center of my piece. Once it was fired, I used rainbow colors to make the piece come to life. I am overall pretty satisfied with the piece, but if I would do anything differently I would work harder to smooth and even out the sides, and use less harsh colors. I also decided to bring candy to share with the class on the day of the final
